Call of the Wild Werewolf

Call of the Wild Werewolf by Jack London, Carl Waters

Synopsis: Deciding to leave his easy life in Santa Clara Valley, Buck Miller, the son of a wealthy judge and raisin farmer, pursues gold riches in the Klondike. Before he reaches his destination, Buck is kidnapped by vampires, turned into a werewolf, and forced to work as the vampire’s sled dog.
Now, in an unfamiliar place and in an unfamiliar body, Buck must learn to survive more than just the brutal weather. With attacks from vicious werewolves and abuse from his masters, will Buck be able to regain his humanity or will he spend the rest of his days living as a wolf?
WARNING!!!
This a mashup story. It combines Jack London’s classic, The Call of the Wild, with the werewolf mythology in my Merlin’s Hoods world.
It is in the same vein as Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith’s mashup novel, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Instead of adding zombies, I’ve added werewolves and vampires.
Mashup stories are a creative novelty. The idea is to create a new story by adding as few words to the original story as possible. So, most of the words in this story are Jack London’s.
I love werewolves and the protagonist, Buck Miller, is a powerful werewolf in my Merlin’s Hood world. This is his origin story.

My review: As a fan of mashup novels, werewolves, and vampires I was instantly intrigued by this story. It does not let you down. This tale will sweep you up in the beginning and carry you until the end on a marvelous journey. So, if you are ready, dive in!

Of the Wolf “Zion”

Of The Wolf Zion by Lucien Maier

Synopsis: Tyler never fit in around his mom’s ranch in Southern Utah.
So he decides he will live his life in the Canyon he only got a Glimpse of.
Zion National Park has many amazing features, especially the werewolves…..

My review: I received a free digital edition from the author in return for an honest review and I’m glad I did! Once again Lucien’s characters are very relatable and his imagery truly makes you see the Canyon. Lucien also spins werewolves in an intriguing new light that is sure to leave you wanting more; I know I’m looking to see if there is a sequel!

Shifting Shadows

Shifting Shadows: Stories from the World of Mercy Thompson by Patricia Briggs
Synopsis:
Mercy Thompson’s world just got a whole lot bigger… A collection of all-new and previously published short stories featuring Mercy Thompson, “one of the best heroines in the urban fantasy genre today” (Fiction Vixen Book Reviews), and the characters she calls friends. Includes the new stories: “Silver”, “Roses in Winter”, “Redemption”, “Hollow” and reader favorites: “Fairy Gifts”, “Gray”, “Alpha and Omega”, “Seeing Eye”, “The Star of David”, “In Red, with Pearls”

My review: I am in love with the Mercy Thompson world, so when this anthology came out with all the short stories combined, I knew I had to have it on my shelf! I had only ever read “Alpha and Omega” before but the other tales do not disappoint. Although it did have some reader favorites, they were previously published in anthologies with other authors or on her website so not always easily accessible. This is a nice, neat way to access them and four new stories. I couldn’t love this book more as it not only features Mercy but gains the reader insight to some of her beloved friends as well. I advise anyone who loves Mercy Thompson to go grab a copy and anyone who hasn’t read Mercy but loves shape shifters and werewolves, to try it out!
