Omega

Omega (War of the Alphas #1) by S.M. Reine

Synopsis: Ten years ago, Deirdre Tombs died. When she was reborn the next day, Deirdre had become a shapeshifter who can’t shift shapes. Nobody knows what animal she’s supposed to be. She’s definitely not a werewolf. The Alpha, Rylie Gresham, can’t force her to transform like other members of her pack.
Now Deirdre is considered an omega, the weakest shapeshifter in the pack–a vulnerable position when Everton Stark demands tribute from Rylie. He wants to be the dominant Alpha. The only Alpha. And he plans to make her pack submit whether they want to or not. Stark can make every shapeshifter obey him by force of will alone.
Every shapeshifter except Deirdre.
The shifter who can’t shift is the only hope for Rylie to win the war against Stark. It will take everything Deirdre has to survive undercover in his den. But can an omega’s will be stronger than that of a charismatic, deadly Alpha like Everton Stark?

My review:  Received a free copy from NetGalley and I devoured it! I read a lot of shifter novels but this one was an intense treat. Don’t expect this book to go where you think it will. Reine’s characters are memorable and I’m definitely getting the next book!

Shifting Shadows

Shifting Shadows: Stories from the World of Mercy Thompson by Patricia Briggs
Synopsis:
Mercy Thompson’s world just got a whole lot bigger… A collection of all-new and previously published short stories featuring Mercy Thompson, “one of the best heroines in the urban fantasy genre today” (Fiction Vixen Book Reviews), and the characters she calls friends. Includes the new stories: “Silver”, “Roses in Winter”, “Redemption”, “Hollow” and reader favorites: “Fairy Gifts”, “Gray”, “Alpha and Omega”, “Seeing Eye”, “The Star of David”, “In Red, with Pearls”

My review: I am in love with the Mercy Thompson world, so when this anthology came out with all the short stories combined, I knew I had to have it on my shelf! I had only ever read “Alpha and Omega” before but the other tales do not disappoint. Although it did have some reader favorites, they were previously published in anthologies with other authors or on her website so not always easily accessible. This is a nice, neat way to access them and four new stories. I couldn’t love this book more as it not only features Mercy but gains the reader insight to some of her beloved friends as well. I advise anyone who loves Mercy Thompson to go grab a copy and anyone who hasn’t read Mercy but loves shape shifters and werewolves, to try it out!
